About

Tim Hawkes Music

What exactly is Tim Hawkes Music? It’s a place to keep in touch with a number of bands, artists and music projects, including Morrison Hawkes, The Underground, and Tim’s solo work. Think of THM as a collective more than a record label, where collaboration and evolution are the natural state of affairs.

In His Dreams He Runs

With the passing of Tim’s Morrison/Hawkes friend and writing partner Jeff Morrison, Tim was challenged by the loss. After a period of working through the challenges of losing a close friend and music partner, Hawkes turned his thoughts to paying tribute to Jeff’s life and the art that he created.

The In His Dreams He Runs record began as a one-off song project that reacquainted Tim with producer Trevor Titian. Hawkes and Titian found working together to be inspiring and decided to enter into a full album project.

Then the world shut down. Disappointed by the stop in progress, Hawkes used the opportunity to write and further develop the project.
Invigorated by all the challenges, Hawkes and Titian restarted the project with a new-found appreciation of what a privilege it is to be able to do what they do.

Morrison Hawkes

Two good buddies make music

Morrison Hawkes… two good buddies who’ve been writing songs and jamming together for many years.

Jeff Morrison was a songwriter and visual artist whose artwork has been exhibited and sold around the world. Musically, he began playing the piano at 9, and by high school had composed a number of original songs. As a young man,  Jeff suffered a paralyzing spinal cord injury. Undaunted by the daily challenges of quadriplegia, he continued to draw and paint, write lyrics and compose melodies. He met Tim Hawkes and together they have been writing and recording ever since. Jeff sings lead and backing vocals, and plays harmonica.

Tim Hawkes is a musician, songwriter, and performer who’s been playing since he started his first band in grade school. His band, The Underground made a splash with their self-titled debut album, garnering extensive radio play and a loyal following. A veteran of the grinding Canadian club scene, Tim has logged thousands of miles (and many guitar strings), entertaining enthusiastic crowds for many years. Other musical projects include warm and The Tim Hawkes Band. In Morrison Hawkes, Tim plays guitars, bass, and keyboards, and adds backing vocals.

Morrison Hawkes strove to be intelligent, entertaining, and fun. According to Tim, “We were also trying to do our bit to make the world a better place.”

The Underground

Hamilton Roots

The Underground was formed in Hamilton, Ontario. As part of the emerging alternative music scene, the band performed across Ontario and recorded their first full-length album in 1988. With Tim Hawkes and Willy Macauley as primary songwriters, the band was rounded out with Piero Amodeo and Steve Smith. The self-titled debut album, The Underground was produced by Mike Northcott and mixed by legendary producer/engineer Bob Doidge (Gordon Lightfoot, etc. etc.). The album was recorded at Grant Avenue Studio and MJM Productions.

Recently, all the original members of  The Underground have begun rehearsing and potentially writing new songs. Stay tuned to see where this may lead!
